While this account is certainly not intended to disparage a very well respected brand or discourage those who may enjoy the product from testing it out, a first line of advice would simply be to test the product in store prior to purchase.Ĭonsidering the glowing reviews and a very brief in store test (results proved different with at home use)- I opted to invest in a full size product in the light blonde shade, thinking it would be an ideal solution in between coloring processes. While this product is better than a lot of powder formulations on the market with an aeresol spray formulation, and bearing in mind this is a personal account (as many users and fans seem to love the product, and a product affinity is always personal and open to interpretation), I had some of the worst experiences in trying to use this product, and would recommend those seeking root cover up treatments to look for other products if you are not already a fan of the line. It is designed to evenly disperse on the roots when sprayed lightly from an angular distance, and offers buildable coverage that is best used on dry hair. It is safe for all hair types, including those with keratin treated hair (or any relaxing or straightening treatments). The touch up spray comes in 5 different colors and is designed to be used in between salon trips or at home dying processes, and is water and transfer proof. For fellow chameleons, the product is also available in red and two different shades of blonde, as well as darker colors to use to conceal grays. I wrote this review while participating in a blog tour campaign by Mom Central Consulting on behalf of Rita Hazan and received a Rita Hazan Root Concealer product and a promotional item to thank me for taking the time to participate.During days I would regularly conceal my naturally dark hair with bright blonde coloring, I turned to Rita Hazan’s Root Concealing Spray after several recommendations and reading glowing reviews about the product online. I’d love to go to her New York City salon someday. Also, look at Rita Hazan’s website for more info and videos about her and this product. Let me know if you have more questions I can answer. For $24, it might pay for itself after enough extra time before salon visits. My overall opinion of this product it very positive and I am likely to purchase more when I need it. The next darker shade would be good for very dark brown hair and black hair. My hair is dark brown, but the “Light Brown” spray was exactly the right shade for me. They have a blonde spray (no jokes), and I imagine it would blend in your silver hair, but not really cover any dark grow-out you have. If your roots grow out darker, I don’t think it will make dark growth lighter. The Rita Hazan Root Concealer covers grey hair. This might be a positive for you! (Edited to add: I now find it at Ulta. That’s quick and easy, but just less fun for me than shopping-shopping. I LOVE Sephora, but there’s not one convenient to me, so I’d have to order it off the Sephora web site. Also, it’s currently only available at Sephora. What I didn’t like about it:Īt $25 for a small can, I want to use it sparingly. I could re-style it and comb through it easily. There was no odor I noticed (and I have a super-sniffer) and my hair didn’t feel sticky or tacky. It lasted on my hair until the next time I shampooed. Once it was dry, it didn’t rub off on my hands, clothes, or on my pillowcase at night. A bit of overspray (my fault, it sprays out in a vary narrow range, not all over like hairspray) wiped of my skin quickly and didn’t stain. I sprayed it on my styled hair, just at the part and at the hairline. What I liked about Rita Hazan Root Concealer: I’ll tell you what I liked and didn’t liked about it. I’ve tested the Rita Hazan Root Concealer for the last several weeks. Not one did a good job or looked really natural. There are many ways to hide your grow-out. The problem is that a week or two before a touch-up, I’m sporting the Pepé Le Pew stripe. Like someone who doesn’t have a safety pin on her bra. It makes me feel like a lady who hasn’t had a cat pee in her boots recently. I love tossing around my glossy, cappuccino mane. I love how my hair looks for the first few weeks after a salon visit. My own grandmother looked exactly the same from forty until the day she died, and that look was “old”. Some women look fabulous with silver hair. My stylist says I’m more than fifty percent grey. At first I colored it for fun, then to cover my increasing grey. Every six to eight weeks for the last twenty years I’ve colored my hair.
